Arts Rights Justice

Are you deeply committed to the role of creativity in advancing social justice?

Do you have energy, contacts, and expertise to share with a growing nonprofit organization that has been supporting individuals who use creativity to fight injustice for the past five years?

Are you based in the New York City area?

If you answered yes to all of the above, or have a friend who does, freeDimensional (fD) is interested in hearing from you. Between now and May 15th, fD is soliciting potential board members, volunteers and advisors to join our community and help us deepen our impact.

fD advances social justice by supporting culture workers who use creativity to fight injustice around the world. We do this by linking culture workers-in-distress to safe haven and other resources and by developing innovative ways to support creative activism by redistributing existing resources within the arts and human rights communities. To foster an inclusive community of practice among art spaces, culture workers, and social justice initiatives, fD facilitates knowledge-sharing and collaboration on its online platform for art and activism and engages the art world to heighten public awareness on critical issues.

Founded in 2005, fD is a 501c3 registered in New York. We have a small but dedicated staff and have moved our base of operations internationally between art space ‘hub sites’ in which we work. Currently, fD is based in Queens, New York at the Flux Factory. Demand for fD’s services have grown and we are now entering a period of planning and organizational development to prepare for the next three to five years.

fD has identified 2010 as a year for building leadership among on our board, advisory committee, and volunteer corps. First and foremost, we seek individuals with a commitment to social justice and freedom of expression and the energy to commit to supporting fD as it deepens its impact as an organization. We are also looking for expertise and support in the following areas:

  • Financial planning & management in a nonprofit setting
  • Fundraising and development
  • Marketing and public relations
  • Event planning

Between April 15 – May 15, fD’s Nomination Committee will be reviewing nominations and meeting with potential board members, advisors, and volunteers. Those with an interest in fD are asked to forward a CV and a brief statement of their interest to the Nominating Committee. For more information or to nominate someone, please contact Karen Phillips, Director of Programs, at programs@freedimensional.org.
