Biography
Maxim Tumenev (Uzbekistan) began his career in performing arts 13 years ago, when graduated from The Ilkhom Theatre School of Drama, the only independent professional repertoire theatre company in the entire Central Asian region and real cultural phenomenon. Ilkhom Theatre which not only survived during strict Soviet dictatorship, but continued and thrived as part of the new independent country – Uzbekistan – has strengthened its position as the only cultural institution presenting local culture worldwide.
Today The Ilkhom Theatre remains the only theatre company in Uzbekistan, without any state support and struggles in the conditions of local type of “perverted democracy”. Two years after graduation as a professional actor, the company’s managing staff recognized Maxim’s skills and offered the position of Company manager. At that time (in 1998) Maxim realized that combination of artistic and managing skills could become a balanced combination for his career’s development. On the first steps his work was mostly focused on internal management of the company. Very soon he succeeded in creating an effective system for organizing, scheduling and facilitating the company ensemble of actors, directors, designers and technicians, which included different and strong personalities. The large part of Maxim’s job was also focused on building the policy of the company’s repertoire. At the beginning, he assisted the Artistic director of the theatre in programming, but later this responsibility was passed on him completely. For the last 8 years Maxim has programmed all the company’s activities and events. In 2000 Artistic Director (Mark Weil, founder of the Ilkhom Theatre) offered Maxim the position of International Projects Assistant. Some of his responsibilities were (and continue to be) to initiate and maintain relations with the Ilkhom’s international partners. Soon after Maxim became International Tours and Projects Associate of the company. This work still remains one of the prioritized spheres of his activity. For the last 7 years every international tour of the company (among them 2 tours to the USA, number of tours around Europe, Russia, tour to Japan and Israel), work with festivals (more than 14 festivals all over the world) and international co-projects were managed by Maxim in co-leadership with Mr. Mark Weil, who was brutally killed in September 2007.

In December 2010 The Ilkhom Theatre has got the new status of NGO "The Ilkhom Center for Contemporary Arts", where Maxim serves as International Projects Director and Consultant in International Relations.

In the present time Maxim is based in Brooklyn, New York. He is holding working O1 visa as Art Administrator and in search for organizations, which he could share his unique expereince with.
