Profile Information

Biography
I grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico, a place that taught me about the power of culture. Since moving to NYC in 2004, I have worked for PEN American Center, the Committee to Protect Journalists, and freeDimensional. I studied Art History and Spanish at Smith College and earned a Master's in International Management and Policy at NYU's Wagner School of Public Service. I am co-founder of the Proyecto Victoria Ocampo, a residency and art space in Argentina. Currently, I am living in Berlin on a fellowship from the Robert Bosch Foundation. I will be working this fall in the Culture and Development section of Germany's international development organization, GIZ.

How I heard about fD and why I'm here
I heard about fD when I was working in the journalist assistance program at the Committee to Protect Journalists. Todd Lester stopped by to tell us about fD and the potential for partnering for journalist safe haven placements. I went on to collaborate with fD, helping develop a system to assist culture workers facing persecution and doing grant writing for the organization.

fD Seeks Board Members and Volunteers

Posted on April 14, 2010 at 2:54pm

What's a Board Storm?

In late 2009, fD staff members decided to dedicate 2010 to building new leadership in the organization. In the process of thinking about how to revitalize fD's leadership, we realized that a more robust board of directors could help us better meet our mission while infusing the organization with new energy.

We knew we wanted to grow from a minimal, founding board to a larger, more active one, but we weren't exactly sure where to start. There are countless books,…

Thank you from freeDimensional

On behalf of the fD team, I want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who offered their support during our year-end campaign. With your help we were able to raise nearly $2000! We also grew our family of volunteers--individuals who want to help us by planning an fD fundraiser, hosting events, and providing administrative support for our programs. At fD, we operate on a tight budget, relying heavily on volunteer hours and in-kind donations, so your contributions will have a big impact on our… Continue

Up close and personal with Uganda’s film industry

Last Saturday I arrived here in Kampala, Uganda, to complete the research phase of a project I began in September as part of my graduate studies at NYU. Since September, I have been working on a consultancy team for Maisha Film Lab, an East African film training organization based in Kampala. Maisha, founded by film director Mira Nair, has provided training to nearly 300 filmmakers from the region since it started in 2005. It hosts… Continue

Awesome. Thanks for the resource! I have to admit that I haven't gotten as far into the Cleveland book as I would have liked. So far, it has been an interesting read: less on the social science-y side, but I'm very much appreciating his way of weaving together narratives. I actually had the pleasure of hearing him speak at a convening in St. Louis, which was fantastic.

Overall, it has been a very busy few weeks for Americans for the Arts with our annual Arts Advocacy Day(s), as well as for Animating Democracy as we move forward with the web project. I will definitely have to check out your recommendation though! Thanks so much.
