Profile Information

Biography
Jesse is a social activist, professional theatre and film artist and youth development worker who currently lives in New York, but who lived and worked in Kigali, Rwanda for nearly six years. Jesse is currently the Executive Director and Rwanda Program Director for Global Youth Connect, a human rights education and activism organization creating multicultural and interdisciplinary programs for youth and grassroots organizations in Rwanda, Bosnia, and other countries around the world, including the USA. Before joining GYC, Jesse co-founded Rwandans Allied for Peace and Progress (RAPP), a local NGO in Kigali, Rwanda, and worked as program director for RAPP's HIV/AIDS prevention program. Jesse’s work at RAPP included developing and managing a creative HIV prevention program for Rwandan high schools, associations of people living with HIV/AIDS, and communities, utilizing a combination of innovative theatre methods, peer education, and outreach activities. He also has written and/or directed numerous short films and radio dramas for RAPP and for Population Services International (PSI-Rwanda). He also served as a visiting artist at the Community Arts Project in Cape Town, South Africa where he facilitated and directed a community development theatre project in collaboration with township youth and South African artists. Jesse received his B.A. from Harvard University in 1999.
