Irene S. Leung is a practitioner and researcher of cultural resilience, and works in the nexus of diverse fields such as women’s empowerment, social mobilization, creative value chain and urban revitalization. She combines social research and cultural analysis with program design and resource development for nonprofit organizations and international NGOs.
Irene recently completed an in-depth study of gender and disaster risk reduction for the Huairou Commission and UNISDR; a report on cultural infrastructure and creative value chain in Penang, Malaysia, where she also facilitated the founding of the first community-driven artisan market. She is currently a project consultant for Living Arts City, an emerging project at Parsons The New School of Design, and serves on the Distress Services Committee at freeDimensional where she contributes to strategy analysis and resource mapping. Irene received an MSci in International Affairs at The New School and PhD in history of art from the University of Michigan.
