Freedom to Create's Page

Biography: Freedom to Create was established in 2006 to harness the power of the Arts and culture to build more creative and prosperous societies. We focus on regions where there is the greatest need to change mindsets and build capacity to fight the intolerance and conflict that prevents creativity from flourishing.

In the developed world, we take our creative freedom for granted. But in many societies, political repression, intolerance, ignorance and religious extremism inhibit creative expression, especially for women. Artists play an important role in breaking these barriers and championing creative, economic and political freedom.

The Freedom to Create organisation fosters these creative expressions and actions by supporting selected programmes around the world. The Freedom to Create Prize celebrates the courage and creativity of artists who use their talents to build foundations for society and inspire the human spirit. Artists serve as champions of the freedom of expression essential for strengthening understanding and harmony. They take risks to play an important role as positive change agents.

They are the voices of courage, reconciliation, unity, healing and hope.

How I heard about fD and why I'm here: Freedom to Create has supported the incredible and innovative work of fD and applaud it's defence of artists around the world who are using their talent to affect positive change in their communities.
