Amirali Navaee is 27 years old. He lives in Teheran, Iran. From 1998
until 2005 he was involved into experimental theater performances
as director, choreographer, actor and musician. In 2005 dance performances
were banned in Iran.
In 2004 Amirali Navaee started
his studies in cinema education
at Sooreh University and Tehran
Film School. He participated
in the HFF-Sooreh exchange
program in 2005. Together with
Heiko Aufdermauer, he directed
the short film “Zaar” that was
shown at the Oberhausen Short Film Festival. In Teheran, he realized an
experimental film called “As I was leaving my city” to participate at the Teheran
Citizen Rights Film Festival. Due to censorship, the film was not
accepted at any festivals in Iran but was shown in Lodz and at the Dancing
on the Edge Film Festival in Amsterdam. In 2006 he participated in
a workshop on performance art in Poland and shot a documentary film
called “A film about hope” in Varamin, a city close to Tehran. Besides
several other documentaries and underground art installations, Amirali
Navaee made an 18-minutes fiction short film called “My Atomic Beloved”
which follows two dancers in Tehran, nine hours before an atomic bomb
hits the city. The film was sucessfully shown at the Cinedans Filmfestival
in Amsterdam in 2008 but again, couldn’t officially be shown in Iran.
In February of 2009 Amirali Navaee did a video art installation in Terni for the valentine's day called Saba wind.
He is doing a short film called Sight now in Berlin ,the premier is on the 9th of may.it is about a cinema which blindfolded people are watching film and a storyteller ,tells them lies.He is making a film for IETM , network of dance and performance art.he did one film for this network in november 2008,you can watch it on the ietm.org.

I'm in Istanbul, staring out the window to the sunny city, trying to get the rest of my work done this afternoon.
I hope to come to Iran next year...been trying for a while now. I think I finally have a good reason and project to come.
