Simple rule to make this site useful for all

Dear all,
this webpage offers two ways to send news to the members: When you have an information to send to the members, please use teh "comment wall" below. The other one is the "discussion forum", to use only when someone asks a question and wants to trigger a debate. What internet users often do, is to start with a wall post; and if there are many answers, then they move to a discussion forum. Sorry for stressing this "rule", but be sure it will facilitate the use of the site, when it grows bigger.
Have a good day!

UNDP Human Development Report Office (HDRO) calls for research proposals.

Next year will mark the twentieth anniversary of the Human Development Report, and HDRO is undertaking an extensive reassessment of the concept, measurement and impact of the human development idea, to be published in the form of the 2010 Human Development Report.

The Human Development Report Office (HDRO) invites proposals for research papers on topics related to its 2010 HDR. Three areas are of particular interest:

(i) Works related to the systematic assessment of progress and setbacks in human development since the 1970s, and in particular systematic empirical investigations of what has been achieved, what works, and what are the key gaps and constraints.

(ii) Contributions that revisit the concept of human development – and its measurement (including the Human Development Index) – and propose enhancements needed to help policy-makers ensure that people are at the centre of development.

(iii) Research that attempts to understand how the human development approach matters for the determination of policies and development strategies.

The 2010 report will thus seek to articulate an agenda for change to underpin a New Human Development Deal that can significantly advance development thinking and policies. It will reflect current thinking from academia and the policy world as well as new research guided by the Human Development Report Office. It will place significant emphasis on the knowledge that comes from developing countries and regions, including as garnered through the national and regional human development reports. This emphasis reflects the belief that placing people at the center of development also implies putting people at the center of the generation of knowledge about development, and that this is best achieved by understanding how communities and local actors understand the practice of development.

SUBMISSION OF INFORMATION

Information shall be marked with the note “Call for Research Proposals” Information shall reach HDRO not later than 4 Dec, 2009.

· Research methodology

· Outline of research and timetable

Additionally, proposals must be accompanied by a Curriculum.

All material should be sent via e-mail to hdro.procurement@undp.org

Applications must be submitted by Dec 4, 2009. Early applications are encouraged.

Proposals will be evaluated by a jury appointed by HDRO and decisions will be made on the basis of the quality of the proposal and of its relevance to the 2010 HDR. Results will be announced by Dec 11, 2009.

Selected proposals will be invited to complete the research paper by Feb. 19, 2010.

IMPROVE YOUR TEACHING GRANT

The new CRC SOTL Fellowship Program call is out with the deadline of 20
June. This is a one year grant to research an aspect of the lecturer's own
teaching (anything innovative they would like to document and share after
investigation), or to research student learning in their discipline, in
their own courses. Applicants should be from Eastern Europe, South-Eastern
Europe, the Former Soviet Union, Mongolia and Palestine (not EU) and should
be teaching in social sciences and humanities at institutions of higher
