A
new report by Leveraging Investments in Creativity (
LINC) shows how U.S. artists are weathering the recession.
Over 5000 artists nationwide responded to the survey. Some key findings: over 60% of artists surveyed hold at least one job outside of art-making; 66% of artists reported annual earnings below $40,000; 48% reported decreases in the sale of work; and 36% reported a decrease in the number of artist grants awarded.
On the upside, 40% of respondents report having been able to spend more time on their work and a third of respondents are experimenting and collaborating more.
A summary of the survey results is available
here. According to the summary, the survey "is part of LINC's efforts to improve conditions for artists nationwide."
