IMMIGRATION EQUALITY: Advancing equal rights for LGBT and HIV-positive immigrants and their families

IMMIGRATION EQUALITY would like to know if you can specifically assist with the following items to promote equal immigration rights for LGBT families during the Senate Judiciary hearing and House Reuniting Families Act introduction next week.

1. Have your organization endorse the Reuniting Families Act. Due: ASAP.

This is an LGBT-inclusive family immigration bill Congressman Honda is introducing June 4, that includes the Uniting American Families Act and the rights of gays and lesbians to sponsor our foreign-born partners for immigration. Congressman Honda would like to be able to include your organization in the list of endorsing organizations on his website at http://honda.house.gov/legislation/2009/family-reunification/. More info with jkruse@immigrationequality.org

2. Submit short written testimony for the Senate Judiciary hearing on the Uniting American Families Act next Wednesday June 3. Due: June 1 (at the latest June 2)

Instructions for such testimony are attached in support of UAFA above, as well as sample testimony, talking points, and a fact sheet on UAFA you can use. Please send your testimony by COB Monday, June 1to jkruse@immigrationequality.org. You can keep it short and simple!

3. Commit to grassroots outreach as soon as possible after next Monday, June 1 urging your constituents to write members of Congress in support of the Reuniting Families Act (and the inclusion of LGBT families in CIR overall).

If you can, get in touch with jkruse@immigrationequality.org ASAP.
