Google Earth Activism - any other map fans in the house?

I just read these case studies about Google Earth being used for activist purposes:
United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Crisis in Darfur
Sierra Club - Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

Here on fD's site, we use a Google Map to show the locations our partner organizations around the world - but we haven't delved into Google Earth territory yet. I wonder what we could do with Google Earth and other mapping technologies, to help people understand economic migration and other global issues that affect activist culture workers (and everyone else...)

I guess I'm just posting this to start a dialogue around mapping! Is anyone else here into mapping? Do folks know of other ways to map, besides these Google options?
